I kept finding these empty cicada skins stuck around the yard.  One was stuck to a fence, another to the garage.  I plucked them off and decided they needed to be cast in resin!!

You will need:

Cicada skins:  you will have to find them

Paperweight mold:  http://amzn.to/2d6pCHJ

PearlEx pigment:  http://amzn.to/2d6q34Y
Glitter: https://amzn.to/2BLvcff
Resin (use whatever resin brand you like):
Easy Cast:  http://amzn.to/2yjYmBC
Art Resin:  http://amzn.to/2yk9X3z
Clear Cast:  http://amzn.to/2z4rxGw
***FX Poxy (clear):  http://amzn.to/2AF3Pkk ~ According to the manufacturer, this one is heat resistant to 500 degrees F and UV resistant.

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Mix about an ounce of resin and pour half an ounce into each mold – reserve just a little.

2.  Place the skins into the resin and drip the reserves over the skins, to make sure they get coated.

3.  Carefully run your lighter over the skins and resin.  Be sure the skins are covered with resin, otherwise you may accidentally set them on fire!  Oh no!  Allow that to set until you are sure the skins will not float anymore.

4.  Add more clear resin, until the skins are fully embedded in resin.

5.  Again, run your lighter over the resin and allow to cure.

6.  Mix more resin, maybe an ounce and separate into two cups.  Mix fine blue glitter into one cup and pigment powder into the other and pour into the molds.  Pop bubbles.

Note:  For the white one, I did a mix of white glitter and white pigment powder.

Once 12 hours have passed, you may unmold them!
Now you have some amazing, if a little creepy, paperweights!

Thanks for stopping by!

Remember:  Life’s too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!
