Make a cute DIY ghost decoration from an acorn! This easy Halloween craft uses acrylic markers and UV resin to create adorable gift toppers.
When acorns start falling, it’s time to craft!
We were up at the lake, and there was a bumper crop of acorns.
And when I say bumper crop, I mean it sounded like we were living inside a popcorn machine, with acorns pelting the roof and ricocheting off in every direction!
I’m not even going to talk about the walnuts…
It was like nature was trying to tell me something.
So, I gathered up some of those acorns, along with their cute little caps, and turned them into a DIY ghost decoration.

I didn’t have a grand plan.
I just thought they’d make cute little ghosts, and that was reason enough!
I used acrylic markers to turn them white and give them faces. Then, I added UV resin to protect it and created those fun, wavy ghost bottoms.
They turned out even cuter than I expected!
And here’s the funny part: I originally made them just because I thought they were adorable.
Then, I ended up using them as little toppers on my Halloween cheese ball containers labeled Witch’s Warts and Bat Droppings.
They made the cutest Halloween gift toppers!
If you are looking for an easy Halloween craft, these little acorn ghosts are a fun way to turn something you find outside into a cute ghost decoration.

DIY Ghost Decoration Directions (He’s a cute ghost!)
Step 1: Wash & Make the Cute Ghost Faces
Give the acorns and their caps a good wash and let them dry completely.
You want everything clean and dry before you start decorating.

Use a white acrylic marker to color the acorn. Then, add two black eyes and a little black mouth.
Finish with pink rosy cheeks.

You can give each ghost a slightly different expression.
I think the little faces are what make these cute ghosts so much fun!
Step 2: Create the Wavy Ghost Bottom
Place the acorn flat-side down on wax paper (parchment paper is actually better if you have it).
Drip UV resin over the acorn and let it run down and spread around the bottom.

This creates that classic ghost shape with a little wavy edge.
Put it under your UV light and cure the resin.
Once hardened, carefully peel the ghost off the paper.
I used wax paper because that’s what I had on hand, but parchment paper would probably have worked better.
Turn the ghost over and cure the bottom under the UV light too, to make sure the resin is fully cured before the next step.

Use your white acrylic marker to color the bottom of the cured resin so it matches the rest of the ghost.
Add another thin layer of UV resin to the bottom to seal the color, then cure it under the UV light.
Step 3: Glue on the Acorn Caps
Use hot glue to attach the little acorn caps back onto the tops of the ghosts.

And that’s it! You’ve got yourself a collection of cute little acorn coasters.

They’re small, inexpensive, and a fun way to add a handmade touch to your Halloween decorations.
