Big Resin Snowman Decoration DIY

I love using large cake molds to make large resin pieces to help decorate the house!  I happened across this silicone mold at Walmart and for $3.47, I couldn’t resist!

I am using resin to make this, but you can certainly make it with plaster as well.  If you are looking for a holiday craft for the kids, this would be perfect.  You can make plaster versions ahead of time and then let them paint them and sign the back.  If you are doing plaster, you can embed a wire, so you can skip the drilling part.  I’ll link a video at the end, where I show you how to do that!

You will need (affiliate links):

–  Silicone snowman cake mold

–  Orange acrylic paint:  https://amzn.to/2UJLcY1

–  White pigment dye: https://amzn.to/2rHfz44
–  Red beads:  https://amzn.to/2QVTgFX
–  Fake leaves:  https://amzn.to/2EwGyHX
–  Resin (use whatever resin brand you like):

Directions:

1.  Paint right on the mold with your acrylic paint.  Make the nose orange and the mouth, eyes and hat black.  This will take multiple coats.  Allow to dry.  On the hat, I painted up the side a little bit, just to make sure the sides would be covered.

2.  Prepare your resin, according to the package directions.  I used six ounces.  Add white pigment dye (or you can use pigment powder if you would rather) and mix well.

3.  Pour into mold.  As the bubbles rise to the top, you can use a lighter to pop the bubbles.  Let it cure a minimum of 12 dollars.

4.  Once cured, unmold your snowman.

5.  Take some artificial leaves and glue it to the snowman.  Add a few red beads as berries.

6.  Drill a hole in the hat, to be able to run a ribbon through it, to hang.

That’s it!  Remember:  Life’s too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!
