Big Resin Conversation Heart DIY

I loved the candy conversation hearts as a kid and I still love them now, so I thought…..why not make a big one?  Okay, you can’t eat it, but it’s fun to look at!  Just think how cute would a grouping of these be in different colors.

You will need:

Here is the video tutorial:

  1. Print out KISS ME in black.  I chose a very plain font and size it to the size of my mold.
  2. Take a piece of contact paper and cut out your phrase.  You want to cut it out backward because when you stencil it onto the resin mold, it should read backward.  That way, when you remove the resin piece from the mold, it will be printed correctly.  I show you how in the video above.
  3. Peel the contact paper off the backing and stick it to the mold.  Carefully rub it down with your fingers.
  4. Take a stencil brush and the red paint and pounce the paint onto the stencil/mold.
  5. Carefully pull up the stencil.  Touch up any areas as necessary.  Allow the paint to fully dry.
  6. Mix six ounces of resin, according to the package directions.  Add opaque white dye and a small amount of red to come up with the perfect color pink.
  7. Pour it into the mold and remove bubbles as necessary.
  8. I recommend allowing it to dry for at least 12 hours before moving onto the next step, but I was in a rush and waited only six hours before moving on.  Take a piece of wire and bend it to make a hanger on the back of the heart.  If you waited 12 hours, you can glue it into place, with the looped end sticking up.  If you didn’t wait 12 hours, see the video to see how I handled it.
  9. Prepare more resin and dye it pink.  Pour into mold.  This should embed the two snipped ends of the hanger.  Remember the looped part should be sticking out of the resin.
  10. Allow the resin to cure at least 12 hours before unmolding.

That’s it!  Now you can hang it on the wall and enjoy your larger than life conversation heart!

Thanks for stopping by! Remember: Life’s too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™ Stay safe!
