I wanted to try something a little different today, working with wire. Here is what I came up with:
You will need:
– Flat wire
– Easy Cast Resin (find Easy Cast internationally at www.eti-usa.com)
– Pigment powder – purple, blue and yellow
– Coaster mold
– Black india ink
– Clear drying glue
– Parchment paper

Directions:
1. Take your wire and create four wings, a body and a head. Using needle nosed pliers, bend it so the ends meet up. Keep in mind the size of mold your are working with. Don’t make it too big.
2. Working on parchment paper (so you can peel it off later), glue the pieces together. Allow to fully dry and become completely clear.
3. Using a toothpick, apply the glue onto the wire, where the ends meet. This is to seal the opening.
4. Prepare a small amount of Easy Cast. I did two capfuls of the hardener and two of the resin. Prepare according to the package directions. You need enough to cover the bottom of the coaster mold.
2. Working on parchment paper (so you can peel it off later), glue the pieces together. Allow to fully dry and become completely clear.
3. Using a toothpick, apply the glue onto the wire, where the ends meet. This is to seal the opening.
4. Prepare a small amount of Easy Cast. I did two capfuls of the hardener and two of the resin. Prepare according to the package directions. You need enough to cover the bottom of the coaster mold.
5. Pour it into the coaster mold.
6. Once the resin has spread, place the dragonfly into the mold.
7. The resin, in the mold, will seal the bottom of the wire, so we can add color to the dragonfly.
8. Allow to cure for at least 4-5 hours.
9. Prepare more resin. Separate into 3 or 4 cups.
10. In one mix the black india ink and carefully drip it into the body and the head of the dragonfly.
11. In another, mix the purple pigment powder. Carefully drip it into the wings.
12. I had some purple left over and mixed the blue in with the purple, so it would have a slightly different color. Drip that mixture into the other wings.
13. Mix yellow pigment powder, with the resin, and use that for the area around the dragonfly.
14. Let all of the cure for approximately 5 hours.
15. Prepare more resin (enough to fill it and make it all level).
16. Pour it onto the dragonfly.
Tip: Remember to use a lighter to pop any bubbles, throughout the process.
17. Let it cure for at least 12 hours before removing from the mold.
