DIY Fun Shark Coaster – Another Coaster Friday

Inspired by kids art – I love the simplicity of it – I created this last coaster for Shark Week.

You will need:
–  Resin – I use Easy Cast or Envirotex Lite (for more info or where to find it internationally, go to www.eti-usa.com)
–  Craft foam – blue, white and redd
–  Fish stickers
–  Dark blue glitter
–  Coaster mold
–  Glue (I used a super glue)
–  Black button

Here are some of the same or similar items I used, incase you want to give it a try:

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Prepare your resin, according to the package directions.  You want to created the blue background.  I used three capfuls of each the hardener and resin.
2.  Mix in the blue glitter and mix well.  You want to make sure you put a bunch of glitter in, but you don’t want it to be clumpy.
3.  Allow to cure.
4.  In the meantime, take paper and create templates  for the shape of the head.  You need one for the top of the head and a piece for the bottom.  You can use one of the other cavities you are not using to get the size and shape right.
5.    Trace shapes onto craft foam and cut out.
6.  Once the resin has cured, you can glue the pieces onto the glitter resin.  I used a fast drying super glue.  You only need a few dots to tack it into the resin.  You don’t want any of it squishing out.
7.  Cut thin strips of red craft foam and measure and make sure they fit, to be the gums of the shark.  Carefully tack on with a little bit of glue.
8.  Cut out small triangles from the white craft foam.  Glue them into place as teeth.
9.  Add fish stickers.
10.  Glue a black button on for the eye.
11.  Once glue has dried, you can mix more resin and pour it over everything.  Allow to cure a minimum of 12 hours before unmolding.
12.  Because there is air between the resin and the craft foam, you might have more air bubbles than usual.  Be on top of it and be sure to check multiple times and pop the bubbles with the lighter or straw.

That’s it!  Happy Shark Week and Happy Crafting!

Thanks for stopping by!
