Perfect Wine Lover Gift | DIY Resin Wine Jar

DIY resin wine glass jar tutorial. A unique and perfect wine lover gift idea, for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions.

Have you ever looked at a mold and thought, “You could be so much more than what you are?”

Silicone jar mold

That’s exactly what happened here.

I took one of my all-time favorite silicone molds, the one I used for the tooth fairy jars, as well as a bunch of others over the years. One of my favorite jars is this bathing beauty jar I made to hold my dimes when Greg and I play Kings Corner.

This time, I decided to take it one step further and elevate it. I turned it into a wine glass inspired resin jar…and honestly, it might ber on of my favorite wine lover gifts I’ve ever made.

This one is for a friend’s birthday, so I customized it with all her favorite things: dolphin, sea turtle…and…of course…red wine.

If you are looking for gift ideas for wine lovers that feel super personal (and a little extra), you’re going to love this one!

Why This Makes Such a Fun Wine Lover Gift

I love giving handmade gifts anyway, but this one feels a little more next level.

It’s totally personalized, functional (hello, jar with a lid!), and it looks like a glass of wine, which is just fun.

Honestly, this falls right into the category of cool wine lover gifts because it’s not something you can just grab off a shelf.

Perfect Wine Lover Gift Directions

Step 1: Let’s Talk About the Resin Pour

Okay, this is where you have to flip your brain a little. This mold fills from the bottom up… which means the top of your wine glass is actually the bottom of the base mold.

So the first thing I did was mix and pour clear resin.

That creates the “glass” part of the wine glass.

Then you want to let that layer set up a bit, or you can let it set overnight and come back to it.

*Important Tip: If you pour your red layer too soon, the colors will blend, or you’ll get red/pink swirls.

As for the lid, I poured the clear resin just to the side of the lid. If it comes on top of the lid a bit, that’s okay too.

Step 2: Making the Little Details

You are probably wondering what makes this the perfect wine lover gift…

Well…it’s all in the details.

This is where the personality comes in. Take note of people’s favorite things; that’s how you personalize it.

The Dolphin

I actually cut the tail off the dolphin (trust the process), it’s just a little toy. I painted the dolphin with an aqua paint but left the belly white,

The Turtle

I used mica powder in purple, bue and black. I dusted the different colors in the turtle mold. Then, I took UV resin and built it up in the mold, curing after each layer.

The colors turned out so nice!

The Extras

I used a mini cabernet bottle, where I changed the label and made it more personal. Then, I used cocktail umbrellas. I coated them in UV resin, and they made them see through. An unexpected but cool effect!

Step 3: Building the Scene

Before pouring the red resin, I attached everything using UV resin to the top of the lid.

This step is kind of like setting up a scene. Place your dolphin, turtle, wine bottle, and umbrellas, and secure them with UV resin, so nothing shifts.

Step 4: Time for the Wine

Now for the fun part, the red resin.

I mixed up some more resin and added a deep red pigment for the red wine. I slowly poured it in the base and made sure it was full.

As for the lid with all the stuff attached, I slowly poured and dripped the red resin to cover the lid.

When it had flowed around all of the pieces, I dropped clear acrylic vase filler pieces that looked like crushed ice. I dripped a little red resin over the “ice cubes” so they all blended and were covered.

Step 5: Don’t Waste That Extra Resin!

If you are like me, you always mix too much resin. Which is not a bad thing as long as you have an extra mold on hand.

If you can make the perfect wine lover gift even better, you need a bonus gift!

Pouring excess resin into a bowl mold

In fact, this jar mold is one of my favorites to use with excess resin. The beach beauty jar I posted earlier was made with extra resin from multiple projects.

For this project, I poured it into a homemade bowl mold that I made out of a creme brulee dish.

I ended up with a coordinating bowl to go with the jar.

Step 6: Adding the Stem

So I wanted this to actually look like a wine glass…

Which meant I needed a stem.

I ran to Dollar Tree, grabbed a wine glass, and got to work.

I scored the glass with a glass cutter. Then I heated it with a candle and immediately plunged it into a bowl of ice.

And somehow…it worked perfectly!

It made a little pop sound, and when I moved it, it fell right off!

Not gonna lie, I was shocked!

Then, I used a little rubbing alcohol to clean it up and filed the sharp edges, so I could attach it.

Step 7: The Final Assembly

Once everything was cured and removed from the mold, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the base so I could slide the stem inside. I used UV resin inside the jar and under the jar to make sure the stem would stay in place permanently.

Then, I was left with one thing to do…the dolphin tail!

I added the dolphin tail to the bottom of the lid and lined it up so it looks like it’s bursting through the wine.

Such a fun little touch.
