Don’t Waste It!! Turn Leftover Resin Into a Beautiful Coaster

Don’t waste it! Don’t toss your extra resin! Use leftovers to create a unique, colorful resin coaster with zero waste.

Turn Resin Leftovers Into Something Beautiful

If you are like me, you often mix more resin than you need. And while I never plan it, I hate letting it go to waste.

So, don’t waste it!

I’ve started pouring the leftovers into a coaster mold — and it’s become one of my favorite happy accidents!

What You’ll Need

  • Resin
  • When deciding on which resin to use for your coasters, you need to keep in mind whether you want it just for cold cups or for hot ones as well.
  • If only for cold drinks, you can be flexible and use whatever brand you like:
  • If you want it to work for both hot and cold drinks, you need to look for a heat-resistant resin, like these:

How This Leftover Coaster Came Together

I didn’t follow a plan with this coaster — just a don’t waste it attitude! Every time I had a bit of resin left from a different project (like my resin dragonfly, butterfly, or wedding coasters), I scraped the leftover resin and put it all into the same mold.

Directions

Step 1: Broke Out The Coaster Mold

I added a small amount of red and blue resin, which was leftover from a previous pour.

Step 2: Don’t Waste It and Add Glitter!

When I had some leftover glitter resin and other pigment bits, I put those in too!

Step 3: Curing

I let each layer cure before adding another because it could be days between pours. You can absolutely pour the leftovers at the same time.

Step 4: Clear is Good

Finally, I poured a clear coat over the whole piece and it sealed everything together. If you have enough leftovers, you can skip this step.

Step 5: The Reveal

After letting the final clear coat cure for 12 hours, I popped it out of the mold — and wow! What started as leftover scraps became a vibrant coaster with reds, purples, and glitters, along with deep tones.

I love how unique it is!

Quick Tips So You Don’t Waste It!

  • Keep a coaster mold handy during every resin project.
  • Don’t worry about colors clashing — it adds to the charm.
  • Add a clear coat at the end to seal everything and unify or even out the layers.
  • Use a lighter or heat gun to pop bubbles after your final pour.

There is something extra rewarding about creating a coaster from leftovers. It’s low-pressure, fun, and always a surprise. Next time you have extra resin… DON’T WASTE IT!
