Want to learn how to make metal jewelry? This easy flower pendant uses jewelry clay and resin for a simple DIY with gorgeous results!!
If you have ever wondered how to make metal jewelry without soldering, torches, or complicated tools, you are going to love this project.
When I made this pendant, I was pretty new to jewelry clay. I don’t think they make the brand I used and now it’s just called epoxy clay.
Just incase you watch the video, I don’t want you to get confused. An the resin I used was called jewelry resin but resin has come so far from its industrial start, it’s now just resin and there are so many options.
Whatever you want to call the materials…I am hooked!
I love the epoxy clay and have been a long time epoxy resin enthusiat.
This was only my second time using it. There is something so satisfying about taking a simple metal embellishment (that I bought on clearance) and turning it into a glossy, boutique worthy pendant.
And the best part?
It’s easier than it looks!
Let me also save you from my little learning curve,,,
They recommend wearing gloves and coating them with olive oil or talcum powder so the clay doesn’t stick. I started with olive oil (because that’s what I had on hand), but once I switched to baby powder with cornstartch…
Total game changer.
It works beautifully.
If I could redo this project, I’d use the powder from the start.
That’s the fun of crafting…we learn as we go.

How to Make Metal Jewelry in 3 Simple Steps
Step 1: Mix the Epoxy Clay
Put on gloves and lightly dust them with baby powder. Mix equal parts of clay Part A and Part B until the color is completely uniform. You don’t want any streaks.

Then, press the clay into the bezel and smooth it into an even, thin layer across the bottom. This creates the base that will hold your metal piece securely.
Step 2: Add the Metal Flower
Gently press the metal flower into the clay. You don’t need to push hard. Press just enough so the clay can grab it and hold it in place.

Brush pigment powder (any color you like) over the entire piece. This is where it really starts to come alive. Let the clay cure for 12-24 hours. Once cured, gently brush off any loose pigment.

Step 3: Pour the Resin Finish
Prepare your resin according to the package directions and carefully pour it over the flower until the bezel is full. Use a lighter to pop the bubbles.

A torch might be overkill. A heat gun might blow the resin out of the bezel. This project is a little more delicate.
And just like that, you’ve learned how to make metal jewelry with a professional resin finish.

I love how the resin makes everything pop and gives it that glossy, finished look. This pendant would be beautiful to wear yourself or give as a handmade gift.
