I use a Cricut to make a lot of things, but today we are going to make a cute pirate onesie because….aargh!
Or is it arrr?
Anyway, my niece is having a baby boy, and she didn’t want to go with the typical teddy bear or dinosaur themes.
She decided to do a pirate theme…with a side of dragons.
This project is so easy because I didn’t have to sew the onesie or anything; I just broke out my Cricut.
If you don’t know how to use a Cricut, this is about as easy as projects get!
When I found out she wanted to do a pirate theme, I bought THIS aargh-uable, adorable baby pirate hat and eye patch.

Directions on How to Use a Cricut to Make a Cute Pirate Onesie
Step 1: Find a Design
I went into Cricut Design Space and found and Jolly Roger (skull and crossbones) and a crab.
Am I the only one who didn’t know skull and cross bones are called Jolly Rogers?

The skull and crossbones were to go with the pirate hat, and the crab is to look like it’s biting his butt.
Step 2: Cut It Out
I put my white HTV vinyl onto the cutting mat and cut out the skull and crossbones and the crab.

*Remember to always cut on the non-shiny, non-plastic side.
I sized them nice and small, after all, it’s going to be on a newborn onesie.

I used my Cricut to cut out the images, and then I weeded both.
Step 3: Give Them a Press
I placed the vinyl cutouts on the onesie and then used my heat press to adhere them.
I like the automatic heat press because it automatically puts the right amount of pressure onto the fabric and opens as soon as the timer goes off.

*On a side note…I also use my heat press to iron my placements after washing them. It’s hard to get them really nicely pressed with just an iron. Just an FYI!
Anyway…I put them in the heat press, cover them with the sheets, and give them a good press.
I do it twice because I like to make sure everything is adhered to properly.
Once the vinyl has cooled, I carefully pull off the plastic.

TIP: When pulling off the plastic, always pull parallel to the fabric; don’t pull it straight up. If, for some reason, it hasn’t fully adhered to the fabric, or you haven’t let it cool enough, you run a risk of pulling the vinyl right off.
Then, it’s done, and you have an adorable little pirate outfit!

So easy and so fun!
I can’t wait for our little pirate to arrive!
