This week’s coaster attempt was trying to make a faux amethyst geode. I don’t think I exactly accomplished it, but I still think it turned out pretty cool.

Here is a list of items I used, but keep in mind, you can use anything to give it texture. I just dug through my beads and craft supplies and used what I had.

*I also used some clear bugle beads, microbeads, and some Glamour Dust. I would say those are all optional because I am not sure they are creating any additional texture. Also, if you don’t have or want to get dichroic glass, a great alternative would be using old CDs or DVDs. Cut them up and use them instead!

Directions:
1. Go scrounge around for things to put in your coaster. Look through your beads, if have a broken window or mirror, use pieces from those. Beads can create great texture.
2. Prepare your resin, according to the package directions.
3. Split the resin into four different cups.
4. In the first cup mix some black glitter.
5. In the second, mix some purple pigment powder with some purple glass or purple beads.
6. In the third, mix some white pigment powder, with white glass or beads.
7. In the fourth, mix dichroic glass, or cut up CDs or DVDs, or beads. Also add a tiny, tiny bit of white pigment powder and some very fine white glitter.
8. Take your black glitter mixture and pour it around the outer edge. You can use your stir stick to help move it to the edge if it all runs to the middle.
9. Take your purple mixture and pour it in the middle of the mold. Use your stir stick to move around the glass and beads.
10. Take your white mixture and do the same.
11. Take your final mixture and pour it right in the middle. You don’t need to move these pieces out, but you do want to flatten them some.
12. Allow to cure for several hours. If your surface is flat, let it sit for at least 12 hours before removing from the mold. If you need to add a clear layer to even out the surface, you can do that after 3-5 hours. Then, let it sit for at least 12 before removing from the mold.
That’s it! Now you have your faux geode coaster! Experiment with colors and beads and different glass to see what you come up with!!
