It’s time for another Garbage to Gorgeous!  Today we are taking and old kids table that looks like it was waterlogged and pretty beat up.  We are going to give it a very grown up coastal makeover!

Furniture makeovers take a lot to time and generally quite a bit of effort, but they are worth it!

Here are some of the items I used:
Weathered gray stain:  http://amzn.to/2buEcXv
Poly acrylic satin finish: http://amzn.to/2bvcUF3
Tack cloth:  http://amzn.to/2bKe53U
My dad – sorry – he’s not for sale 🙂
White paint:  http://amzn.to/2bKefbm
1″ X 3.5″ pieces of wood for slats
1″ x 2.5″ pice of wood for frame
Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Find a table and clean it up.  If it needs repair, be sure to do that first.  I used bleach because I felt it really needed it.

2.  Once clean, give it a light sand, if needed and prime and paint.  I painted the legs white.

3.  This is where my dad stepped in.  When I ask for help, it usually means he’s taking over!  He used the big bad saw that I won’t/can’t use.  He used the 1″ x 3.5″ pieces of wood and cut them to size, the length of the table top.  Every table will be different, so you will have to adjust accordingly.

4.  He built a frame with the 1″ x 2.5″ piece of wood.  He glued it and nailed it together.

6.  He then inserted the slats he cut and then glued and nailed them in place.

7.  That created the table top.  It was then glued and nailed into place on the painted table.

8.  I sanded the new top.  I started with a 60 grit and moved up to a 220 grit.

9.  I swept it off and then wiped it down with a tack cloth.

10. I stained it weathered gray and allowed it to dry.

11.  I followed up with three coats of the polyacrylic to protect the new table.

Now it has a whole new life!

That’s it!  Now, go do some coastal decorating!

Thanks for stopping by and remember:  Life’s too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

  1. Such an informative blog! All the information provided by you is really very helpful. I agreed that tack cloth is the best cleaning tool than any other, it is really helpful for removing tiny dust particles over any surface. A good tack cloth makes your work easier. Everyone should follow the tips provided by you. thank you for sharing! Keep posting!
