Directions on How to Make a Valentine’s Day Pillow Cover
Step 1: Prep Your Pillow Cover
Start with a presewn square pillow cover (or any shape that works for you). If you are a sewer, you can create your own.
Iron the pillow cover to remove any wrinkles for a smooth surface to work on.
Step 2: Paint the Heart Background
Place a piece of poster board cut to size (or foil, wood, or plastic) inside the pillow cover to prevent bleedthrough. Use the color wash tint to paint blobs on the cover. The shapes are very rough, rough heart blobs.
Aim for three rows of three blobs across the pillow. Once dry, use a heat press or iron to set the color wash.
Step 3: Cut Your Heart Outlines
This is where you bring the Valentine’s Day pillow cover to life. Right now, it’s just a pillow cover with a bunch of pink blobs.
In your design app or program, look for a heart outline that you like. I measured my blobs to figure out what size I would like best. I sized 9 hearts and cut them out of black iron-on vinyl.
Once they were cut out, I weeded out the excess vinyl, then cut the hearts into individual pieces.
Step 4: Add the Heart Details
Place the black heart outlines over the painted blobs on the pillow cover. Use a heat press or iron to adhere the hearts to the cover. I used 315°F for 15 seconds on my heat press.
Let the vinyl cool, then carefully remove the clear plastic backing.
Step 5: Assmble Your Valentine’s Day Pillow
Slide your throw pillow into the pillow cover and voilà! You made a custom DIY Valentine’s Day pillow to decorate your home…with love!
I personally love the paint outside the lines look!
